On a differing note Jack Anderson 5th Australian time trial 2011, Richard Thompson travels to Wanaka.

There is now less than two weeks until I race the 2011 Challenge Wanaka Ironman Triathlon. Time has flown. It was only three months ago that I was sitting in Hawaii after recovering from pneumonia thinking about my future in the sport. I realised that my approach in being a professional triathlete wasn’t working. I was comparing myself too much on other professionals and as a result I stopped enjoying training and racing.

Sitting in Hawaii I realised that I still loved the sport that has given me so much already and I felt I still had a lot to achieve. But with such a disappointing 2010, something needed to change. With the help of my new coach we went back to the roots and only focused on my own development – almost like I would be the only person in the race.

Although I was very unfit coming home from Hawaii, I approached each session trying to improve my own ability. I am very happy to say that in three months I have become fitter and faster than I have ever been. I am so excited to head over to New Zealand and personally have a great race over the challenging course. While there are so many talented professional males on the start line, my focus will be solely on myself and not worrying about anyone else. I will be racing a lot in 2011, and if I can cross that finish line at Wanaka on January 15, 2011 having given everything I have for all three disciplines I will be one happy man.
